The Ostrich Effect

Latest; on the hacked e-mails from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) in East Anglia, it appears the hacking was for real.

James Delingpole is still on the case (Hurrah!) recording the miniscule coverage in the Main Stream Media (MSM) of the CRU hacking.

This has become very much another example of the blogosphere versus Main Stream Media (MSM) divide, with bloggers immediately realising the significance of the material, and the MSM running for cover. Given the intensity of interest though, this story is not going to go away, even with the best attempts of the MSM to behave like ostrich’s and bury their collective heads in the sand in the hope it will.

James, incidentally, has picked up a useful site I’d urge you to browse, where all the e-mails are listed in searchable form, making it a lot easier to dip into the contents without having to trawl through each individual message. (Wish I’d found that one earlier!)

He adds his view of the Main Stream Media (rather lack of) response, noting that it has been caught with its trousers down. The reason it has been so ill-equipped to report on this scandal – which is now being called "climategate" is because almost all of the Main Stream Media (MSM) Environmental Correspondents and Environmental Editors are parti pris members of the Climate-Fear Promotion lobby. Don’t believe me then just scan all the MSM environment pages and you’ll see plenty of articles on the likes of this and of this ilk full of fear and “end is nigh” doomsayers. Even the BBC hardly mentions the hacking with just one benign article by Roger Harrabin.

Most of the MSM hacks contacts (and information sources), says Delingpole, work for biased lobby groups like Greenpeace and the WWF, or conspicuously pro-Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) government departments and Quangos such as the Carbon Trust.

How can they bring themselves to report on skullduggery at Hadley Centre (CRU) when the very scientists involved are the very ones whose work they have done most to champion and whose pro-AGW views they share?

And this, of course, is the problem with the Main Stream Media. They have bought into the myth, and are now hopelessly compromised. The free spirits and independent thinkers are for the most part on the blogosphere, says James. And indeed most of them are. And there are enough to tear this AGW myth apart - as always, WUWT is the one to watch, and there is also a good summary of the state of play here.

So far, of course, this hasn't gone "political", but anything which damages the warmist religion is bound to have political implications, not least because ALL the politicians have so easily let themselves be beguiled by the creed. They are willing acolytes of the false prophet of “man made climate change” doom. Or maybe just pragmatists who see yet another big stick with which to continue to bully and tax us into submission.

I’ve never bought into this warmist hysteria; being a sceptic by nature I don’t follow the flock, preferring to mooch on over to some new pasture to “see what’s going on” as more often than not the flocks all off to the abattoir.

But the hysteria continues with pieces such as this, even the BBC is a promoter of the fear, but there is hope as were all generally getting a bit sick up to the eye teeth of the propaganda as this report shows. So in response to our growing collective scepticism expect even more propaganda (such as this little gem) from Department for the Eradication of Farming and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) cranking the hand up on the fearometer.

Meanwhile Politicians continue to keep the faith, “Do Nothing Dave” Cameron's “progressive” “modern”  left of centre "heir to blair" conservatives or whatever other label he thinks up next, could have created clear blue water between themselves and nu-Labour on this issue right from the start. But the boy king just had to buy into it, and is now going to look as stupid as the rest when the whole thing freezes up, as indeed it will.
